  1. ‘Dedicated’ nurse wins payout after receiving threats for blowing whistle – A “dedicated and hardworking” nurse who blew the whistle about patient safety has won more than £80,000 in compensation after she was unfairly targeted for speaking out by her former employer (Nursing Times)
  2. Former Norwich Connaught workers wait for result of compensation battle – More than a hundred Norwich workers who lost their jobs when city council contractor Connaught went into administration are waiting to find out if they will receive compensation (EDP24)
  3. Sacked surgeon wins backing of employment tribunal – An employment tribunal has ruled a top surgeon was unlawfully and wrongfully dismissed by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust over allegations of sexually harassing two junior doctors (The Banbury Guardian)
  4. Ryan Speciality Group settles £7mn Johnny Rowell employment tribunal – Ryan Specialty Group (RSG) has agreed a settlement in its £7mn wrongful dismissal dispute with former Jubilee Group CEO Johnny Rowell, The Insurance Insider can reveal. The undisclosed settlement was reached today (11 July) on the third day of a scheduled eight-day hearing at the London Central Employment Tribunal (Insurance Insider)
  5. Tribunal told that whistleblowing nurse’s claims ‘are without merit’ – A former nurse at a Welsh hospital investigated over poor care has said she was left ‘suicidal’ because of the treatment she received from senior staff after raising concerns about patient care. Glenda Rodriquez-Noza worked at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend for eight years before leaving in 2009 after developing depression (RCN Publishing)
  6. Ex-town clerk fights St Neots Town Council at employment tribunal – Helen King, who held the position until December 2011, is claiming unfair dismissal, disability discrimination and breach of contract. The conclusion of the case was heard at Huntingdon Law Courts on Monday (July 7), after being adjourned in April (Hunts Post 24)
  7. Employment Tribunal date set for firefighter sacked over tweets – An employment tribunal for the firefighter who was summarily dismissed after tweeting from his personal account has been pencilled in to start on 28 September and is scheduled to last four days. Ashley Brown, a member of the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS), was charged with gross misconduct and summarily dismissed on 9 December 2013 (IT Pro)

    Overall I am satisfied with the performance from Redmans. The reason I have given 4 stars is that I had quite a lot difficulty in contacting the representative which was initially nominated for me. However, when I contacted Chris instead, he was excellent over the phone and secured a great outcome in short order. I would recommend Redmans Solicitors.

    Good service, but they could have been quicker in their responses to me. I also felt they could have made it clear at one crucial point that what I was proposing - and what I ultimately ended up doing - was counterproductive. (Had they made the rules around TOIL payments clear to me, this wouldn't have happened). Also, the amount I ended up paying was considerably higher than their original estimate. Still, satisfied with the service I received.
