  1. Company fined for safety failings – A metalwork casting and machining company has been fined for unsafe work practices after an employee almost fell through a fragile roof. Canterbury Crown Court heard how an employee of M J Allen Holdings Limited of Kent was working on the roof of the company workshop when he slipped and almost fell through the fragile roof (HSE)
  2. BNP Paribas Sued by Ex-Spot Currency Trading Head De Groot – BNP Paribas SA became the latest bank to be dragged into a spate of foreign-exchange-related employment lawsuits after its former head of spot currency trading sued the lender (Bloomberg)
  3. £1.4m Derby NHS sex scandal claims another official as case reaches Westminster – A £1.4 million Derby sex scandal has now reached Westminster as another senior officer tainted by the affair has resigned. Mick Martin has quit his post as number two at the Government organisation that rules on NHS complaints. He took up the job there after leaving the Kingsway-based trust that runs mental health services in Derbyshire (Derby Telegraph)
  4. Would-be barrister fails in bid to lift vexatious litigant order – The High Court has rejected a bid by a would-be barrister to lift a decade-old declaration that she was a vexatious litigant, which she said was harming her prospects of becoming a lawyer (Legal Futures)
  5. ‘Steaming drunk’ flight attendant who boarded BA plane caught by colleagues after pretending to read book, but held it upside down – A British Airways flight attendant sacked for turning up to work drunk tried to cover up the fact she had been drinking by pretending to read a book – only to be caught out as she was holding it upside down, an employment tribunal heard on Friday (The Telegraph)
  6. NHS worker who gave Muslim colleague Christian book loses appeal against suspension – A Christian NHS worker, who was suspended after giving a religious book to a Muslim colleague, has lost her appeal against a ruling that the decision was lawful. Victoria Wasteney, was found guilty in 2014 by her employer, the East London NHS Foundation Trust, for “harassing and bullying” a work friend (The Independent)
  7. Junior doctors make legal challenge to Jeremy Hunt’s ‘misconceived’ contract – Jeremy Hunt is facing high court legal action over claims he broke the law and acted “irrationally” by imposing a new contract on NHS junior doctors when he had no power to do so (The Guardian)
  8. Worker suffers chemical burns at electropolishing company – An electropolishing company based in Hampshire has been fined after a worker suffered chemical burns. Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court heard how Keith Brown, a 51-year-old worker at Poligrat (UK) Limited was told by his manager to dispose of some waste cleaning chemicals at their Aldershot site (HSE)
