  1. Scottish TUC accused of discrimination by ex-employee from it anti-racism department – Zaffir Hakim claims racial prejudice was behind him being made redundant. Now the 47-year-old – who is of Pakistani origin and worked in the STUC’s One Workplace Equal Right project – is suing for unfair dismissal (The Express)
  2. Engineering firm fined after worker suffers severe leg injuries – A company based in Milton Keynes has been fined for safety failings after a worker suffered serious injuries to his leg. Aylesbury Crown Court heard how workers at GEA Mechanical Engineering Limited (GEA) were attempting to lift a 900kg decanter scroll back into its mobile trailer, following a service in the workshop (HSE)
  3. Portadown FC say they will appeal against employment tribunal McMahon wages order – Portadown FC say they will appeal against an employment tribunal decision to order the club to pay £7,000 in unpaid wages to player Peter McMahon. The club said their representative was unable to attend Thursday’s tribunal because of a “long standing engagement” and had requested a postponement (BBC)
  4. ‘I feel victimised’ NHS worker hits out after being sacked for porn star past – AN NHS worker sacked over her porn star past has hit out at her old employers. Kathleen Molloy, 53, lost her job as an administrator after a colleague spotted her in a film (The Daily Star)
  5. St Albans hotel in payout for employee’s breach of contract – A row over the failed accommodation booking for representatives of Watford Football Club has resulted in a costly payout for a plush St Albans hotel, which later sacked an employee (The Herts Advertiser)
  6. GMB launches legal proceedings against Addison Lee over unfair dismissal claims – GMB, Britain’s general union, has instructed law firm Leigh Day to take the first step in launching legal proceedings on behalf of three Addison Lee workers whose contracts were terminated following a GMB protest in Berkeley Square in May (Fleet News)
  7. Engineering Company in court over fork lift incident – An engineering company in Knowsley has been fined after an employee was badly injured when he was struck by a metal structure during a lifting process. The 46 year old worker from Skelmersdale sustained serious flesh wounds and a fractured arm in the incident on the 30th June 2014 (HSE)
  8. Manager told sick pregnant worker she was ‘no use’ – A pregnant creche worker who was told by her manager she was of “no use” to her after falling sick from a pregnancy-related illness has won her unfair dismissal case. In the case, the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has awarded the unnamed worker €2,010 after finding that she was unfairly dismissed by the creche run under the auspices of an unnamed religious order (The Irish Times)
