MoJIn the latest of our series of posts on employment tribunal stories in the news, we take a look at ten employment tribunal cases that have made the news between 25 November and 1 December 2013. This includes an ex-Credit Suisse analyst who has settled his age discrimination case, a Tribunal ruling that a dismissal for a rant on Twitter was fair and a designer winning her unfair dismissal case against her former employer

  1. Ex-Credit Suisse Analyst Settles Age-Discrimination Case – Credit Suisse Group AG (CSGN) reached a confidential settlement with a 57-year-old analyst who won an age-discrimination claim against the bank earlier this year. Retail analyst Tony Shiret said he couldn’t disclose the terms of the agreement after a hearing at a London employment tribunal today. “I’m glad this is over,” he said (Bloomberg)
  2. Tribunal rules dismissal of shop worker who called colleague a ‘whore’ on Twitter fair – A Cupar shop assistant, who called a colleague a “whore” on Twitter, was not unfairly dismissed. An employment tribunal in Dundee has rejected the wrongful sacking claim of Doreen Reilly, of West Port Place, against the Co-operative Group of Manchester (The Courier)
  3. Former consultant neurologist suing NHS Tayside for unfair dismissal – A former consultant neurologist at Ninewells Hospital who was struck off following the death of a patient from a brain seizure is suing NHS Tayside for unfair dismissal. Dr Wlodzimierz Szepielow was judged to be so poor at his job that he constituted a danger to patients (The Courier)
  4. Gay teacher Ian McMillan, made redundant from The Purcell School in Bushey, wins right to tribunal – A teacher made redundant from The Purcell School in Bushey has taken the school to an employment tribunal over claims he was discriminated against for his sexual orientation (The Watford Observer)
  5. Park View care home women win tribunal appeal – Two women sacked for exposing care home failings have won a legal battle to receive thousands of pounds they were awarded for being unfairly dismissed. The owner of Park View Care Home in Plymouth had challenged the award to Rosemary Parker and Launa Llewellyn-Jones at an employment tribunal (BBC)
  6. Leamington patisserie found guilty of not paying wages to worker – An employment tribunal has found a French patisserie owner in Leamington guilty of not paying a former employee the wages she was owed and breaching her contract (The Leamington Spa Courier)
  7. Lesbian forklift truck driver forced to watch naked women on Babe Channel by abusive boss wins £7,500 discrimination payment –  A lesbian forklift truck driver has been awarded £7,500 damages after her boss bombarded her with pornography and made crude comments about her sex life (The Mail Online)
  8. Scots fire brigade faces tribunal from former chief – An outspoken former regional fire chief has launched a “substantial” claim for compensation from the fire service over allegations that he was the victim of age discrimination (The Scotsman)
  9. Naked truth about Williams’ Leeds exit: Former scout taking Whites to tribunal – Gwyn Williams, the former Chelsea chief scout who discovered John Terry, is taking Leeds United to an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal over the sending of an ‘obscene’ email (The Mail Online)
  10. Designer wins unfair dismissal case against dressmaker Thelma Madine – Sacked seamstress Leanne Phillips has won her employment tribunal against TV’s Big Fat Gypsy Wedding dressmaker Thelma Madine. The former head designer of Nico Bridal Company, on London Road, had taken Ms Madine to court for unfair dismissal (The Liverpool Echo)
